Bar U Ranch National Historic Site
About Bar U Ranch National Historic Site
Bar U Ranch National Historic Site is where Ranching History Comes Alive! Set in the rolling foothills of the Rockies, the Bar U Ranch is the only National Historic Site to commemorate the history and importance of ranching in Canada.
Businessmen, cattle, Natives, princes, women, children, Percherons, polo ponies and cowboys all played a part in the unique history of the Bar U Ranch. Follow its story through seven decades of change from 1882 to 1950. The site has many historic buildings and structures, illustrating various stages of ranching development, and is rich in cultural landscape features. A visitor orientation centre and a vibrant living history program interpret a time when the West was young.
Explore the large collection of ranch building, visit the harness repair shop to watch a saddle marker in action or simply escape the summer heat in the root cellar and visit the workhorse barn. You can follow in the footsteps of the cowboys, feeling the heat of the wood-burning stove and taste some fresh baking! You can also master the skill of looping a rope over the head!
There's always lots of special events throughout the year so make sure you keep up to date by checking the website to see what's happening.
