The Art Gallery of Sudbury was established all the way back in 1967 and originally operated as the Laurentian University Museum and Art Centre. The gallery was incorporated in 1997 and today features some fascinating, inspiring and creative works of art ready to be enjoeyd!
The Art Gallery itself is housed in a turn of the century mansion (worth the visit on it's own!), which happens to be the former residence of lumber baron William Joseph Bell. This means the gallery has a unique architectural appeal for those who love that art form.
Here, local history and contemporary works of art come together in the lush surroundings of the Gallery grounds. Within the walls, you'll find exciting exhibitions, lecture series, art classes and even special events that all make the gallery a truly special gathering place for the local community and all who visit.
The Art Gallery of Sudbury (or Galerie d’art de Sudbury) is a bilingual public visual art gallery and key art educational, cultural and tourism destination in Northeastern Ontario. Their aim is to create meaningful opportunities to showcase contemporary artists within their rotating exhibits, as well as a permanent collection for all who visit the gallery!

Does Art Gallery of Sudbury have a gift shop?
Their gift shop is well worth a stop, as they sell unique and one-of-a-kind products from over 50 Canadian artists and crafters! Thye also take pride in having work from a number of local talents and require at least 50% of their artists come from communities in Northeastern Ontario.
Teachers corner
Field trips to the Art Gallery of Sudbury are hands-on, engaging, and the perfect way to introduce students to art. Each gallery visit provides an in-depth look at the creative process and a chance for students to try their own hand at an art technique! They also have outreach programs that provide both discussion-based presentations and hands on art workshop
Is Art Gallery of Sudbury fully accessible?
The Art Gallery of Sudbury wants to make your visit as enjoyable as possible. Unfortunately, they are housed in a heritage building that limits accessibility. The first floor can be made accessible to wheelchairs and other assistive devices through the garage and into the main floor gallery. The bathroom (basement) and Gallery 2 (2nd floor) cannot.
They do welcome service animals please see the front desk staff for more information.
