About 1000 Islands History Museum

Enhance your trip to the 1000 Islands with a visit to 1000 Islands History Museum located adjacent to the Gananoque Boatline on the shores of the St. Lawrence River. The Museum provides the visitor with an inviting setting to reflect on the history of the area. The building is reminiscent of the original islands cottages and fabulous hotels that were built during the Golden Era.

The museum is family-friendly, and you'll experience thousands of years of Canadian history! From rum runners to river rates, people, buildings, places and more, the history comes alive through the interactive exhibits, events and hands-on actitivies for the kids.

The permanent exhibit is on the second floor and you'll learn the story of Gananoque and the 1000 islands. Learn about the geology that has formed the 1000 islands and the ecology great and small that call this area their home. Discover the First People and the arrival of the Europeans and learn more about the war of 1812 too! The exhibit will explore all aspects of the history that you'll learn invaluable information from.

Every year there are events such as walking, speakers and presentations so make sure you check the website before you visit so you know what's happening when and where!
