How about visiting a garden for your family day out!? Now, before you answer, let us tell you about the Wollongong Botanic Garden...because it's SO much more than a garden!

Wollongong Botanic Garden is a place of beauty which welcomes families and kids with open arms. It's a place where you can learn, relax, play and enjoy what mother nature has created!

First of all, let's start with the gardens! There are a number of garden collections which are perfect for whatever interests you might have in the family!

The Australian Open Forest and Grasslands display forest plants from the east coast of Australia, and attract a host of wildlife too, from sugar gliders and possums!

The Discovery Kitchen Garden is full of useful herbs, plants and flowers which you can use in the kitchen! It's great for inspiration for your meals! There are flowering plants and shrubs, a herb garden, a collection of rainforest species, a rose garden, temple garden...the list goes on and on!

Kids - you will love this "garden" too! The All Abilities Playground is perfect for kids aged 2 to 12 as it includes a climbing net, sand pit, swings, and slippery dip!

Now, we said that the Wollongong Botanic Gardens aren't just gardens! They have a range of activities and programs for everyone to enjoy! There are great workshops where you can learn all about the plants, wildlife, and gardening tips. 

They offer walks and talks - from garden tips, history talks to even GHOST talks! We bet you didn't expect that!

With theater performances, and school holiday activities too, you will have plenty to fill your fun family day out at Wollongong Botanic Garden!

They have an on-site coffee cart with hot drinks and snacks like cakes and biscuits. There's also places to have a BBQ too.

Any top tips when visiting?

Don't forget your hat and sunscreen - that Australian sun is strong! They also have a wellness trail, so take some time and relax in nature.

They have educational programs for all ages, from early childhood to tertiary. A great hands-on experience for the students!
