About Trainworks Railway Museum

Choo Choo! All board - because the adventure is about to begin at Trainworks Railway Museum - and it's going to be quite a ride for the kids! Trainworks Railway Museum is a great place for kids who LOVE locomotives, but also for those kids who love to explore, and love a ride!

Located on 5 hectares within the village of Thirlmere, Trainworks Railway Museum features a host of actual locomotives for the kids to get up close to, and they can learn all about history at the same time! The collection features actual steam engines, rolling stock and carriages from the 1900s, and even dating back to the 1800s too!

The museum also features interactive and fascinating exhibits which will really give kids an insight into what life was like back in history, and also about science and how things work. They can operate an actual steam machine to learn all about how steam power works, or they can feel what it was like to be a prisoner in a prison van.

And what would a railway museum be without an actual train ride! Every Sunday the museum operates a Heritage Train ride where kids can actually climb aboard and explore the area in steam style!

If you have those active kids in the family, they can break up the day by climbing in the great adventure playground with a pretty cool 7m high climbing frame!

Don't forget to explore the Roundhouse too, as well as the Great Train Hall and Exhibition Building, where kids can discover some really cool thing, including some of the more interesting railway jobs!

So choo choo choose Trainworks Railway Museum for your next family day out - and go along for the ride!
