About The Original Gold Rush Colony

PLEASE NOTE: The original Gold Rush Colony is sadly no longer with us due to the devastating bushfires that ripped through the town of Mogo at the end of 2019. Thankfull, the beautiful town of Mogo has survived and has bounced back. There are some wonderful and interesting things to see and do in Mogo, and if you are in the region you really should try to drop into this lovely township and support it’s people and businesses.

Where do you want to go today...how about 1850?  What!?

The Original Gold Rush Colony (previously known as Old Mogo Town) in the town of Mogo will take you and your family all the way back to the 1800's during the gold rush days!

Set on 13 acres of bushland in the Mogo State Forest, you and the family can enjoy an authentically recreated 1850s Gold Rush era village.

Wander around the buildings that will take you straight back into history! What do you think it was like to live there at that time? Would you have liked to have been part of the gold rush?

The town is so authentic, even the administration and on-site accommodation are all 1850-fied!

Kids, I don't want you to panic, but they didn't have iPhones in the 1850s. This place will take you back to a time when the gold rush pioneers couldn't check in at their local saloon, or tag their friends in the pictures after a long day out looking for gold.

Spend your day looking at nature, instead of looking at a screen. Discover what it was really like for our pioneers out on the goldfields, and even pan for real gold!  See how much you can find...you might get strike it rich!

The displays and the buildings come alive with their special events and demonstrations, which can be done on a guided tour.

Fun activities like the challenging maze, period portrait photography, mini golf and the mini train ride all echo the theme of the gold rush.

Enjoy history, and strike gold!
