The SA Maritime Museum is home to the oldest nautical collection in Southern Australia, with exhibits including shipwrecks, ship portraits, model ships, ship figureheads, lighthouse and steam boat collections.
There is a strong interactive theme running throughout, encouraging kids to get hands on with their education.
Permanent galleries include a replica ketch, Port River Dolphin Pod window, but there are plenty of temporary exhibits and displays changing regularly enough to keep return visits fresh.
They offer public research faciltiies tracking down sea faring families etc. too. They also present performances, cruises and special programs for children each school vacation.
See where the intrepid seafarers and intrepid navigators first set foot in Australia and learn about the ships that brought them here.
The Museum's exhibitions recount the history of our sea and shoreline, including the dolphins and marine ecosystems that make up our natural environment. The Museum is renowned for its novel approach to maritime history and education, where two 1850s bond stores house three floors of permanent and temporary exhibitions.
