Railway Museum
About Railway Museum
The Railway Museum at Bassendean is unique in Australia in that it is the only museum to represent the whole country's railway history rather than just one aspect or region. From heavy freight V class steam locomotives to tiny 20 inch gauge mine locomotives, plus 3 other guages available.
They also display significant passenger carriages and freight wagons plus buffet and dining cars which are also available for private hire.
Did you know that it's the only museum that tells the story of all railways across the state?! Most of the collection is focused on Western Australia Government railways, but there are also items that representive timber and gold mines.
It spans from 1881 all the way through the modern diesel locomotives. So whatever you are interested in, there will be something to look at!
They also have a huge collection of artefacts and photographs too that tell compelling stories. So there's lots to do and look at here at The Railway Museum!
