National Zoo And Aquarium
About National Zoo And Aquarium
Have you ever had a day where you and your family can't decide whether to head to an animal-tastic zoo for the day, or a fun adventure inside the ocean at the aquarium?
We have a solution! The National Zoo and Aquarium is Australia's only combined Zoo and Aquarium! That's your two adventures all in the same place!
Kids will love exploring the 7 hectares of land which is conveniently just five minutes from the centre of Canberra. They have native animals, as well as the very exotic from all over the world.
Want to hear something else impressive? They have the largest inland saltwater tank in the country! Pretty amazing!
Have a casual stroll, or make a full day of it with the family (there is plenty to do to fill a whole day!), especially with their BBQ facilities and picnic areas.
Kids will get a kick out of joining the animal encounters, where they get an up close experience with some of the worlds most amazing creatures!
There are even special hand feeding opportunities on weekends and during holidays. No need to book, just make sure you keep an eye on the time and make sure you're in the area!
Ever wanted to hand feed a tiger? (Sorry, excuse us...a TIGER!?) Yep! For an extra fee to your admission, the National Zoo and Aquarium offer Zooventure Tours where you can have a 100kg tiger leap up on the fence and take the meat right from your hand! Or have a lion roar only inches from your face (how is his breath!?). Maybe you want to have a Brown Bear lick honey right off your hand! These are the most hands-on animal encounters in the entire country.
So for all those kids over 12 who want the experience of a lifetime, check it out!
And how could we forget the aquarium! After all is is the National Zoo AND Aquarium! Here you can get close to the amazing reef sharks in their Shark Pier, and even hand feed the Tawny Nurse Shark as part of their daily animal encounters (check out what other encounters they have when you arrive so you can plan your day around it!)
Kids can learn about the Great Barrier Reef, as well as the creatures in the Southern Ocean. Weekends and school holidays you can be part of the Keeper Talks and meet and greet and alligator or a snake! Yikes!
