About Adelaide Zoo

Adelaide Zoo is home to over 1,800 animals and almost 300 species of exotic and native mammals, birds, reptiles and fish exhibited in 8 hectares of magnificent botanic surroundings.

They focus on endangered and rare animals from continents which made up the super continent Gondwana: South America, India, Africa and Australia (also South East Asia). The Zoology and Botany of these continents show interesting similarities and are the regions represented in the Zoo’s major exhibits.

Over 120 animals can be found within their Children’s Zoo. Why not come in and feel the soft fur of a kangaroo, listen to the chatter of guinea pigs, smell the earthy aroma of goats, feed the frisky fallow deer, see the spectacular colours of their chickens and chat with the cheeky corellas?

Plus The Envirodome is an interactive visitor centre located at Adelaide Zoo, which explores how we can better look after our planet through some fascinating interactives. The current state of the environment can be very depressing. By celebrating the wonder and beauty of the natural world, and understanding how you can can make a real difference, we hope the Envirodome will deliver environmental education in a positive, empowering and enjoyable way.
